Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Hired by James Beard award-winning chef, Debbie Gold, DRAW worked with Ms. Gold her owner group on the design of a new restaurant concept in Kansas City’s South Plaza district. The scope for the project included the redesign of an existing 4,400 square-foot restaurant and bar, plus a 1,200 square-foot patio addition. DRAW’s role in the project included the design of the space, as well as furniture and accessory selection.
The concept for the restaurant was an exploration of combining divergent tastes and culinary styles. The design of the space was intended to reflect that exploration, while also playing to the old-world feel of small delis, restaurants and pastry shops throughout Europe. The design and materials reflected these themes and were intended to function and integrate as an extension of the restaurant brand.
Playing off the featured charcuterie theme, the design of the bar included the addition of a custom refrigerated cabinet that would both store and display the dried meats to highlight and showcase the varieties available.
The project was designed through the Programming and Schematic Design phases, and was ultimately sidelined as the ownership group and chef parted ways.
