Project led by Dan Maginn, FAIA while a Principal at el dorado inc.
Johnson County hired the design team, led by Dan Maginn, to provide a gathering place for Johnson County Sunset Office Building employees and the surrounding community. The team resourcefully re-purposed distinctive boomerang-shaped beams from another Johnson County project to use as part of the primary support structure. The design responds to the distinctive architecture of the Sunset Office Building through materials use and form. This connection reinforces the building’s connection to the adjacent wooded site and walking trails, serving as an invitation to utilize the outdoor amenities.
The design team approached Kansas State University School of Architecture students to build the pavilion as part of K-State’s “Design Make Studio” program.
