Location: Westside, Kansas City, Missouri
Project led by Dan Maginn, FAIA while a Principal at el dorado inc.
The project team was commissioned by the Kansas City River Trails Inc. to create a “Transit Oasis” for transit riders, bicyclists, pedestrians and the residents of Kansas City’s Westside neighborhood. The project includes a custom transit shelter featuring local children’s art; a shaded, circular seating area; benches; bike racks and a community information board, all housed within a landscaped pocket park.
The transit shelter, a distinctive galvanized steel structure, serves as an outdoor gallery for a permanent mural forming its three sides. The children at a local community center created the drawings that were incorporated into the shelter’s glass panels.
