DRAW provides ongoing pro bono urban design and planning services to the Troost Neighborhood Coalition. The Coalition, comprising representatives from six neighborhood groups bordering Troost Avenue, advocates for implementation of planning, redevelopment and reinvestment initiatives along the Troost corridor.
In 2015, with DRAW’s assistance, the Coalition wrote a new zoning code overlay for Troost Avenue. The code specifies clear and consistent urban design standards, devised to facilitate the corridor’s orderly redevelopment as walkable, vibrant urban place. DRAW staff met weekly with City staff and the Coalition’s technical steering committee to discuss urban design and planning best practices, draft ordinance language, and provide technical analysis of key neighborhood conditions such as density, land use, and vacancy.
